Good Morning Ross
From a rank BA novice...Fantastic bird! I actually like him more than your avitar! He is a work of art that is pleasing to the eye. I'll place an order for a few just like him! I can't see well the wing set, but who cares, given the rest of him.
G'day Dan,
That little fellow in my avatar is a Bantam.
I only went to three shows in 2012 because of my health, but my birds went to four. He won Champion Australorp over all of the Large at Sydney Royal in April which is a rather big show of something like 2,500 assorted fowls. His sister, who I'll post later got Reserve Champion. They are both still retained on our farm.
The 2nd Show was at Lismore NSW where that Large Cockerel (that I posted above) won Champion Australorp. He's since been sold, but his father and a full brother are in my breeding pens.
The 3rd Show was in Poultry 2012 where I judged a section. There were over 6,000 birds there I believe.
The 4th Show, my wife took a team of six Bantams and came home with Reserve Champion, (and a place few cards) with the brother of that little cockerel in the avatar. I was in hospital at the time.
Today it has been pouring with heavy rain all along the east coast, so I've been inside most of the day and I had an opportunity to read almost all of the posts.
I found some "interesting comments" and some dumb ones but this looks like a good forum to belong to.
Now I have a message for you, Geoff Roche. We had a clash as a result of my first post in this forum over a Standards issue. You had a bark at me, and I barked back and rightly so, I didn't need that b/s.
I've given you both of my phone numbers and you are welcome to call me at any time and I will quietly explain to you a little about those minor anomolies.
As a man who hasn't been in Australorps for very long your knowledge is excellent, and I must compliment you on posting some of those old books and notes.
There was one written by the late Athol Giles that both Ray Connor and I haven't seen in years, so I have printed it out and I'm giving the copy to Ray when I see him next month at Lismore YBS. Ray and I spoke on the phone today for over an hour.
Geoff, please don't even loose your keenness, but may I suggest you "grow a pair" and get back into the forum and discuss the fowls in a gentlemanly manner.
I have to say I've been around these fowls for a very long time, but no one is too young to learn and I've never seen the perfect Australorp yet. Oh yes, I've tried to breed them and the only way I'll stop breeding them is when they send me six feet under.
Regards,
Ross
