Just from observing and learning on this thread, my hatchery BA's do have pinched tails. Also brown eyes are a no-no and mine have varying shades of brown. The chicks had some white feathers which were replaced with black and I think too much fluffy on their rear ends is to be avoided. That's just off the top of my head. Mine all have black legs and feet but evidently some hatchery do not. Toenails should be white, along with the soles of their feet, not yellow.so my 3 hatchery BA's are about 3 weeks old and starting to really feather out nicely. Im just curious, as these are hatchery stock, what "flaws" should i expect to see in them? I am wanting to get seom breeding stock, and possibly show down the line but dont have any experience with this breed and am wanting to start training my eye.
im familiar with pinched tail being a predominate flaw in most hatchery stock of barred rocks, is this something that BA's are prone to as well? Just trying to kinda get an idea of what is right/wrong/standard/non-standard of this breed on a breeder/hatchery stand point.
PS. im not trying to "ruffle and feathers" or anything, just want some input from those with experience!

It is great that you want to figure this out. Go to poultry shows and find the good ones there. Also get a copy of the Standard of Perfection. You can get them at a Poultry Show or from the APA website(they get more money that way from the sale). Study it and use it as a reference for picking your keepers.
Best advice is to monitor and ask questions on this thread. Everyone is very helpful.oh thats not at all what i meant....you obviously have more experience than i! lol! i just didnt want to start some kind of argument like ee/americauna powder keg or anything! Anyone is welcome to comment!
