Australorps breed Thread

I have a horrible time getting pictures to do justice to the black and chocolate birds.
Do you mean their beautiful Green sheen doesnt show up in black birds pics ?
Coz every pic of my BA Roo never really shows that .
I have no chocolate birds so I dont know how the pics of chocolate birds are affected
( sounds like candy to me ...LOL.) yum yum

Im just a novice BA person ...And all the scuffling has wanted me to quit the thread too .
Everyone is at a different level in their chicken keeping ...No one knows everything .
We can all learn from each other .Even if is just patience & compassion .
I think respect for others..regardless of their level should be practiced by everyone to everyone ..
If you are proud of your chickens you want to show it to others ...even if it is just hatchery stock .
I have sometimes posted pics just to keep the thread alive ...sometimes it is dead for days .
I understand people get busy & dont have time to read or to post sometimes

Yes, that green and purple sheen only shows up well in full sun

I was very busy with hatching ad getting an ac set up. We are heating into some heat already--It was 88 today and will be 92 tomorrow. It gets too hot upstairs for the incubators at those temps.

I did get a picture of one of the day old chicks I put under the Blue Australorp.

I hope she does ok with them!

Hi all. I am new to the breed and I have tried searching back in the thread, but it is very daunting (604 pages...whooo). I am hoping someone could compile a list of characteristics for the breed that newbies like me could look for. I guess I'm looking for something a but more specific than broad breasted, good carriage and pink soles of the feet. Even number of spikes for comb has different info from what I've found, some say 5 some say anywhere between 4 and 6..... I wish I could purchase the standard of perfection book, but it's just not possible for me right now, so some advice of what I should be looking for in my little guys would be very helpful.

correct me if I'm wrong.

Black with brilliant green sheen (which goes for all black chickens).
Moderately long feathers, everywhere, not close, but not a lot of fluff
Wing tips covered
Arched neck and breast should stick out further in front than the head
Curves everywhere, especially the back, no V or cushion.
Black or dark brown eyes
Bright red face, comb, wattles and earlobes
Black/slate leggs and feet - no yellow, with white or pinkish white soles
White claws
White feathers are a DQ.

Check out the Australorps.com site in Austrailia, lots of pictures even though their standard is slightly different than ours you can download it.
Ron,Ron,Chet,Kurt, and a bunch of others really know their Aussies.

Awesome, thank you. If I posted some pics could I get an opinion on decent breeding stock? Im not necessarily looking for show quality, but good solid stock that stays basically true to the breed. I have one little girl and one little boy that my admittedly untrained eye really likes the look of.....
