Australorps breed Thread

You can tell he is big boy ? I dont have any full aussies yet except for Papa Lucky ..I only have 1/2ses

The one in the back next to the PVC pipe is my 1/2 aussie hen

No,I can't tell how big he is. The hybrid vigor that he will bring into play should produce bigger type birds and pretty ****** good layers. All the offspring should be black as well, if I remember the article I read correctly.

I have 3 pet quality Australorps (3 months) that I didn't hold as much as I should have. They run from us. As with any bird, how can I get them to accept us?

Treats ...they love Bread , black Sunflower Seed ..just dont overdo it with the treats ..they can get off balance .
Do you feed them pellets ? hand feed them . Also do you have a place you can set down ? you are less threatening that way .then show them you have something for them .

Yep listen to gramma :). The way to a chickens heart is through their stomach.

We have always used sunflower seeds to quieten them. Just start out throwing a handful to them next day throw closer, etc etc till they will eat by your feet (you are less scary sitting btw) then move up to holding out your hand then to touching them as they eat. Shouldn't take more than two weeks from first throw to out of your hand.

Actually, her feathers don't cover her eyes at all, so I don't think this is it. I'm still leaning towards either neurological or ear some kind of ear problem. It's really hard to check her ears while she's still so small.

Hey there desert chick, just curious what breed of chick is in you're avatar picture?

That's my little Barred Rock cockerel at the ripe old age of 2 weeks. He's actually one of my sweetest, friendliest and funniest birds....and the only one who's a camera-hog instead of camera-shy.

Still just 2 weeks old here....

At 4 weeks....

Another at 4 weeks....

And 5 weeks.

That first pic of him at 2 weeks is ADORABLE! I'm planning on starting a Belguim Malines flock in the spring and thought that's what he looked like. He looks like he should be a chicken model:p
