Child abuse! Pure and simple.
Not really. The fact that the POLICE got involved when NO crime was committed is a shame.

Should be called free range Kids ...
I was a little concerned over the fact that they were a mile away from home ...
it is a little long away for 2 kids - 10 + 6 years old ( even together )
..But I think they should have some freedom ..One of the mothers said how else would her kids learn street smarts ..
I just hope they dont have to learn it the hard way ..at their expense

If it's a reasonably safe community, I don't see what the problem is. Kids that age can easily walk a mile. What seems strange to me is that someone called the law simply because they spotted two kids walking.

We had an old WW2 jeep that we drove everywhere on. We were allowed to go as far as we could still hear the cow bell. So, we went around with spray paint and marked at five everyday if we heard the bell or not.

That's when it was just my brothers and I, when my grandmother had all 13 grand kids we were either working the emu or fishing. Weren't allowed off the property, but that was 80 acres so we still got in trouble more often than not.

This, of course, was in the early 90s and a LOT has changed just in the last 20 or so years.

BREAKING NEWS STORY : On National NEWs
A movement called Free Range Parents.
They actually let their children walk around their home & Neighborhood by themselves ..
WHO KNEW ?
Hahaha! Who knew? I grew up that way, I believe every kid should. We live out in the middle of nowhere and do not have any neighbors. My kids range is as far as we can see from the windows.

Oh, yes. I read it. I feel like it's ridiculous... even more so that some busy body took it upon themselves to dial 911 for a brother walking home with his sister.

They were a mile away. There are claims that "America is safer than it's ever been," and I recently read violent crime is DOWN 4.4%. But if it's not safe for a 10-year-old to walk his little sister home from the park and the cops are called out of FEAR of what might happen, that doesn't seem like people feel it's safe.

So which is it? It can't be both.

Personally I feel it's safer. No offense meant by this, but, some city dwellers in towns around us don't feel the same. I jog around prisons... I live in prison city, but still... I grew up in a ghetto and its MUCH better now than when we lived there briefly as kids before moving to the family farm. I can go visit, no fear, old neighbors now.

Here's some terrible quality pictures that were nearly impossible to get. Like I said, all but one ( I believe ) are roosters.

Number 1

Number 2, pullet??

Number 3, rooster.

Number 4, pullet??

Number 5, rooster.

Again

Number 6, rooster.

Number 7, rooster.

Number 8, rooster?

Number 9, rooster??

Going to try to get better pictures of them ( in the daylight, not with a flash light ) but these are just so you guys can see the combs and size of the legs. All of these boys were from a December 23rd hatch. There's only two that I think are pullets in this batch, and even then, based on previous hatches and their lineage these ' pullets ' are large and leggy for their age. I might cry if these all turn out to be roosters.
