Australorps breed Thread

400

Here we go. Mind you I'm in yard clothes and it was over 100.

ha ha, i was lucky in that it got them sleeping in that carrier, all i had to do was pull the wire cage over and push it in a bit more and put the front on it (used bbq tongs and a big knife to get the front on it, i wasn't touching it, lol

If I ever see a 6 foot snake in my chicken coop, I'll probably never go there again =). Just nail it up and start over. LOL

You might be surprised as to what you will do to protect your chickens
I have been know to chase down a fox or hawk to protect mine ...a snake doesnt bother me ..I caught them as a kid...
The python might give me a start at first..
We dont have as many around since we got chickens

I can understand those who fear snakes, no matter how unfounded that fear seems to most. My mom was terrified of so much as the picture of any sized snake but she would stand at the bottom of a bear-tree with me while I whooped it in the rear if it tried to slide down before our hunting party friend arrived at the tree with the young pups, giving them a chance to have a run.\

as for me, I respect all poisonous snakes but fear none of them...in fact, I used to hunt rattlers for spending money in college. However, do NOT be standing between me and the door if a spider (especially a dangerous one) is found in that same room. I fear them because they are so small that they can't be readily seen. I know a man who almost lost his arm to the bite of a Brown Recluse spider about 20 years ago. The arm is a totally useless scarred mass and I know it affected his mind as well. He was about 20 years old when he sustained the bite (in an out-side John) and has not worked a day since but lives with his mother and they are all on 'relief'.

Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of caution...even fear in this world and it has always been that way....we all have our bugga-boos.

, the pic is saved on my computer under a very foul word lol, but i have handled snakes too and while i was not keen on being in the cage with it, once i calmed down and actually thought about it, it was relatively simple to bundle it in there without getting too close.

Wow! We have a lot of brown recluse spiders around here. Respect!

That said, I was prevented from using my back door for over two hours one day because a very large, female Black Widow spider was slowly lowering herself down to the ground, dangling from a single piece of silk, right outside my door. I knew that if I opened the door, the physics of the air flow would suck her into my house, and I could NOT tolerate that. I swear she knew I wanted to use that door because I've never seen a spider move so casually. Then, when she finally made it to the ground, I wasn't there to witness it and didn't know what direction she'd gone. I was paranoid for a week that I'd open the door and walk through a web. I HATE walking through spider webs!

Hey ya'll welcome to my world. It ain't called Rattlesnake Ridge because we have a lot of butterflies! My prized breeder Dundee was the victim of a snake bite. My new cattle dog Zoey seems to keep the rattlesnake away, but the black snakes are eating my eggs left and right. The past three weeks have been the worst they seem to sneak into the coops at night when the dogs in the house. We find the snakes curled up and fat in the AM. That **** spider is what almost killed me last year, but bad grass is hard to kill.
