Australorps breed Thread

Hi all,
New here. I have a few BO's with a RSL mixed in. Looking at adding some Australorps to the flock.
How vocal (Loud) are the hens? I have heard that Wyandottes (and maybe even the BO's) are loud and was curious about the Australorps since I have a neighbor who is not above complaining....

They are usually very quiet--they do make noise(egg song) after they lay an egg though.

And the count down begins! Just ordered a dozen blue/black/splash australorp eggs. Waiting list so mine are due after the 15th sept. Our little broody didn't come out of the nest box this morning and was doing a lot of clucking yesterday so I bit the bullet and ordered them so now fingers crossed she is going broody like I suspect! All going to plan we should have some new chicks second week of octoberish :)

I hope you have a great hatch!

And can't wait to see pictures of them as they grow out for you.

Hope so too as we only got 1/12 last time but it was the first time hatching for us and the broody so hopefully we are both wiser this time lol She is a tiny girl so only going to give her 6 eggs and put the rest in the borrowed incubator which I'm getting up and running before they arrive this time, not borrowing after the eggs are here :)

We've got six "extra" roosters going into the stew pot soonishly.

And a goat about to give birth. >.>

Exciting times!!

Oh, and @ronott1, I remember you asked me what I'm breeding for.

Right now, we are just trying to see what pops out of our breeder bunch. So far, we've got a hen that throws a consistent wry tail, slightly off to the left.

We've got one mama who throws beautiful little pullets with a lot of undercarriage fluff. My MrB *loves* the Orpington-y look, but we have a "granddaughter" with less undercarriage, no ax- or wry tail, and dark eyes.

Just waiting for her to fill out.

We let our broody mama hatch a round of eggs, and she popped out. :)

Seems to be a little more hearty than our incubator-hatched chicks.

Sounds like a good plan!
