Australorps breed Thread

I am curious, how do the Australian and American BAs differ? Didn't American's stock come from the Australian birds?

I may have this wrong but Australian standard wants it so the tail is leveled with the back. While American the tail goes up. America did get it from Australia but probably breed it little different than Australians. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Yes, you are correct!

Feathers are a bit different and not as red in the face.

We imported the Utility line not the show line so ours are not as "refined".

I Know!

This one did win for Matt 1616 and she does not look that different from the Australian standard.

Whoa, nice looking bird! The judge must have been born in Australia

It does seem to have a longer back and less high tail than most of the USA BAs I've seen posted on BYC. I have no other references. Is Matt trying to breed a line that is following the Australian SOP?

Probably another case of "Not Invented Here" syndrome. Had to "improve" them instead of attempting to make the "utility line" more like the Australian SOP.

The first is what ours should look like from the Australian australorp clubs standards page next to a USA version. (Not sure how accurate the second depiction is, couldn't find you national standard photo)
