Hey all! I just started with chicks and have 2 4wk old lavender australorps. What can i expect with them? When do they usually start laying? Im super excited for this venture lol

You can expect them to eat like they are starving all the time (they're not, they just think they are), to be easy to tame if you use food as incentive and to be good layers from 26ish weeks though allow a few weeks either side.

Only thing you can't expect as far as I know is a lavender Australorp cause they don't really come in that colour. They are black, blue or white or else they are mixed with something else to get the non recognised colour.

Can anyone tell me if these look like Australorps? They are being advertised on Craigslist list and I want to make sure.
The comb is very wrong for the pullet\hen. BAs do not have floppy combs. They also do not quite fit with either white or blue genetics.

He is very pretty though!

Thanks. I didn't think they looked right. I thought Australorps are suppose to have black eyes. O well, Maybe I will get frisky and try it myself.

Yes, the eyes are wrong too.

They look like they have some Spanish blood in them or some leghorn. He is bigger than you would expect for leghorn--so like some blue andalusian or similar.
