Australorps breed Thread

Can you offer your thoughts as to her sex?

I second that Dottie appears to be a pullet. You will know for sure in another couple of weeks.

Here are a couple of comparison photos of 7 week old chicks. The cockerel is in the middle with pullets on both sides of him. (ignore the Welsummer pullet).

And here is another 7 week old cockerel, who is developing a bit faster than the one above.

Thank you! Those pictures help a lot! Will take another of Miss Dottie this afternoon. Was just dreading having to re-home 2 of the 4.
Sure hope we don't hear her crow.....

Here is Dottie today, at exactly 2 months old- will be 9 weeks in 2 days. Thank you, everyone for your knowledge - I am so happy to hear that she is probably a she!

Now if Dottie begins to crow, all bets are off!

Unless she waits until she is 2 or 3 years old like my Echo did

Not sure if I am posting this in the right place, but here goes! I love my black austrolorps! I a a bit of a newbie but got 4 hens that had just started laying and a roo in April. They are so beautiful, black, glossy and shimmery green! Well they were...they are obviously molting but my beautiful roo looks like his color is fading as he molts. Is that normal?

Yeppers, it will come back as pretty and shimmering as ever.

The karma deal hits them hard, when they look so good for 9-10 months. Karma dictates they look so bad for a couple..

This is Blackie, my prize BA!
