henrietta, I don't know how good they are with children [mine are grown & gone] but they are very sweet tempered.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy, good luck with the hatch. My DH loved the temperment of the two girls we got a year ago and he wanted me to get more and he also wanted a rooster so we could breed them. I also have three other large fowl breeds so I cannot say which would be my main layer flock

Some suggested she might be a Jersey Giant based on photos. When I got her, the bottom of her feet were definitely yellow and she had almost not comb or wattle, and what was there was black. As her comb and wattles grew in they were definitely red, and her feet changed color to a cream color. She didn't grown to the Giant size, either. Ron's information is good, so just keep watching as she grows and you'll figure it out. It just takes some patience.

I have 4 total that were supposed to be Aussies. 2 of them I think are Aussies (Cream feet and skin) and 2 still have the yellow feet and yellow skin and are a little bigger than the other 2 (at 27 weeks now). I agree with what was said earlier about back yard chickens, it doesn't matter much what they are as long as they are laying eggs. Now, if they would just start laying eggs!

you can go online to the standard of the jersey giant and you will learn of yellow feet and skin also the standard calls for 6 points on the comb vs. 5 points required for black australorps, which also have white skin and white to pinkinsh white feet bottoms.

punch up the name of the breed on a search engine and most will give you the standard of the breeds and any varieties.

Thanks. I will check the comb points tomorrow. The 2 that I think might be JG have much bigger combs and brighter red combs so far.
