I'm sure we all dream of sleeping in or going away for a few days. I have been searching for a few days trying to figure out how I can have my chicken door automatically open. I finally found a product we can buy here in Canada. http://www.aartech.ca/model-d20-chicken-coop-door-motor.html

If your in the USA here is where you can buy it, go to number 4 http://www.add-a-motor.com/index.htm

Here is an article that gives an idea how to set it up. http://www.buildeazy.com/photo-chicken-coop-beatarticle.html

I found a chicken door that is made and constructed to automatically open. If you try to buy this in Canada, it gets really expensive for shipping. Its really neat.

I have a question on the Foy's - does the outside install for $180 include a door? we don't have a sliding door on our coop and need an automatic door. Or do we have to buy the door separately? The one from chickendoors.com DOES include the door, right?

I need the cheapest and simplest pop door solution that includes everything including the door

I bought the Add-A-Motor Chicken Coop Door Motor. What I did, I framed my door to fit a sliding plexy glass . It works great. The plexy glass was about $20.

Here is a picture of what I did.

thanks - I was also thinking about that motor although the plexi I have on hand is too thin. a predator could just push right through it. I'd need the really thick stuff!

Plus we'd have to have an outside mount on that, I believe.

Still considering the chickendoors one as it seems more plug and play to me and all the 'doors' we have made so far are umm.. not so nice.

We'd have to board up part of the current door, however - our current opening is rather large for the dimensisons of the chickendoors.com model. The Doorkeeper looks nice, but having to buy the door too adds a bit and I assume there's a shipping charge?

will chat with hubby and see what he thinks. We have other x10 in the house, so he may like the add-a-motor..
