Automatic door/flap

I'm due to go on holiday next week and have asked the neighbour to look after my hens but don't really trust them to do so (they thought we was going away this week as well and never turned up). My hens are use to being free range and always have been, so really don't want to build a run for them and also worried the fox would get in the run and house at night. I've read somewhere you can get an automatic door/ side hatch. I was just wondering if anyone has ever built there own or knows a good website to do so?

We installed the Poultry Butler last November and it has worked great for us! It has paid for itself already because I used to have to pay the pet sitter to come twice a day - the 2nd time just to shut the chicken door. You can set it by a timer or by dusk to dawn. We have it set by a timer.

Hi, this is the motor we bought. It's not the whole door and frame. It's just the motor. But we were easily able to build a frame out of scrap and a piece of heavy metal for the door. Didn't take but an hour. It's on a regular timer. Works great. Just make sure the door goes down below the floor. Raccoons won't be able to lift it then.

Can this run on battery, like a 12 volt, or does it have to be plugged into a power source? I meant the motor only , not the one Foy's

Ok, so is there no product that is a horizontal door opener? couldn't be set up to do the same? My coop door is horizontal and it's a wee little house so not sure if I have room to convert it to vertical open system. I thought it wouldn't matter but the links seem to note only vertical door.

any ideas?

We did have to order a 12 volt battery and solar panel separately, though. It's great since we don't have electricity out in the coop yet. Wish it came with a timer, though.
