I think i found a DIY solution: The previous owner of the property left some large diameter PVC pipes behind, so i could cut open one to form it into a trough, install a garden hose with a float valve on one end and a small pipe with a shutoff valve at the other end. If i leave that shutoff valve open just a bit, there will be a permanent water flow through the trough, removing the food mud. About the frost: I will bury most of the garden hose between the house and the duck-platform and cover the exposed ends with foam-pipe insulator. For the waterer itself, there's pipe heating cable available…
Yippiee! Another DIY project for me! I will keep y'all updated how it worked out.
