automatic humidity control - is it needed?

Yeah I over check my Incubator, if I check hourly I remember to do it, if I check twice a day I forget. So over checking is more to fix my bad memory than anything else. (I am considering getting that 2nd motor already)

It was a really easy swap. I should actually order another just so I have one on hand still, I have a second turner that I don't know how old it is. I've been rather complacent since I DO have a second one now, but it's always better safe than sorry.

I kinda wish egg turners came with a crank so I could still use them if the motor went out.

You can actually find those on older cabinet incubators, they have a lever you slide back and forth.
