In the really hot and humid weather we get here, like temperature and humidity both in the upper 90s, we have our vents and our windows open 24/7. We do get wild swings in the weather in the spring and fall, where we need to open or close the windows. It's not a big deal. On the other hand, we do have an automatic vent on the second story of our chicken tractor. My plans didn't call for an automatic vent. Or a second story. My husband was feeling creative and impulsive during one of his trips to Home Depot.
I don't think most people, living most places, need to adjust their coop openings all that often. There's also nothing wrong with automating anything and everything on a coop. Some things a person in a particular situation might need, that most people don't. Other things are just because you want to do it. Maybe it's one less thing to worry about in a busy life. Maybe it's just cool. Chicken keeping can be as cheap, expensive, easy, hard, low tech or high tech as you want it to be.
What the chickens need, what you need and what you want are all very different things.
