Avatar Movie? What was the reason they couldn't breath the air?

i found it to be a great movie.... especialy in 3D

It was a really fun movie. The 3-D is awesome. I wouldn't want to see it any other way. James Cameron has been working on some new 3-D technology which is a lot better than past 3-D.

I had not been to the theaters in over 7 years but I had my parents watch my ds and I went with some friends.

It was VERY good. I love the idea of being blue, connected with the planet and having a tail. Oh and the flying part rocks as well

ETA I saw it in 3d but would like to also see it regular as it was a lot to take in and I would like to look at the plants and backround more and its hard to do with the 3d as it is a little distracting, but so cool!

Here, on our planet, all organisms breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Humans need an atmosphere with a certain amount of each oxygen and carbon dioxide for respiration. On our world plants produce oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis.

On another world a different mechanism could evolve, and respiration would not necessarily involve oxygen. Here life is carbon based, oxygen breathing and DNA defined; a different world would have an entirely different evolutionary path and while outcomes may be similar biology could be very different.

Warning!*!*!*! possible spoilers here

I'm also wondering, with all the other odd things in the movie, why the oxygen thing is bugging you.....

They had floating/gravity defying islands
Nerve clusters used to communicate with other organisms
fully reactive plant life
no awe or horror of advanced/alien technology
human/ Na'vi hybrid avatars
the whole avatar thing with animating another body
the body tranference thing at the end of the movie.....

the list goes on, and on

let it all go, suspend your disbelief and enjoy.

It's fantasy/sci fi. It's like "the Force" in Star Wars. It's not supposed to be really possible -- which is why I like it. (Sci fi and fantasy are my FAVE!).

More than you wanted to know about Pandora's atmosphere...

Some of the native's spoke English, as they went to the school the humans had set up prior to the movie's story line starting. Most didn't speak English. Most of the humans didn't speak Na'vi either.

I watched it twice, fun movie- but do suspend your disbelief, and you will enjoy it more!
