Not much you can but practice strict bio security. If a wild bird brings it in that’s it.

Ugh...this is what has dragged me out of hiding. Wanted to check in on everyone and brush up on my biosecurity knowledge. In VA, no reported cases yet but getting closer and closer

Contagious disease outbreaks in livestock species are a very big deal, especially when it's a zoonotic disease like some of the avian influenzas. It's bad enough when something affects one species, but adding humans to the mix makes things much worse.
This current episode involves migratory birds on the eastern flyway, which includes Florida, so be proactive right now and keep your flock safe.
You can read up about other diseases, and how they were managed, which worked to make us all, critters too, healthier. TB and Brucellosis in cattle (now in dogs too), and then hoof and mouth disease, and African swine fever, both very big deals now.

I believe the last outbreak in poultry in the US was 2014-15. Search this site I think there were threads here.
