Avian influenza found in South Carolina

Well, there isn't really a good way to do it. Foam is, at least, the fastest way of the reasonable options. And requires the least handling of the birds (stressful to birds that haven't been handled like many of our backyard chickens.)
Agreed, but I don't think it matters. Its so so horrible that none of these places have any respect for the poultry. I understand why, but suffocation is a horrible, inhume option. That is just so upsetting.

Interesting that all Johnston County, NC cases are turkeys. I wonder if they may be affiliated sites with the same employees visiting several sites.

I brought a bird home from Orange County 2 weeks ago. I would be a nervous wreck if it was 2 days ago.

I used to live in Wake County very close to Johnston, so this hits close to home in my heart. My best wishes to central NC peeps. :hugs

Exactly my first thoughts. I heard that the first turkey farm belonged to Purdue but could be anyone. These additional ones were found in the 6.2 mile zone they are checking. So they are all very close. But many ponds in the area too so could still be migratory birds. I believe turkeys are often allowed outside.

I know what you mean. I wanted to hatch a few eggs this year but have put that off. I don't NEED more chickens but didn't hatch last year....I'm having chick withdrawals...lol

My best to you and everyone. I think we all need a 'regular' ole day!

*Edited to clarify, I heard Purdue, but could be anyone. Many poultry farms in that area. Sorry! I've had a bit of coffee now!
