Aviary from "Carport"/Cucks & Geese night pen.

It was a "Carport in a box" 12' X20" I got on clearance at Tractor supply. 149$ We only used the frame, and decided to go buy aluminum roofing to put on (it was wobbly and the tarp for it I didn't want to have to replace and wanted something varmit proof. I covered it in "kennel wire' 2X2" woven wire.Then I surrounded the bottom 36" with hardware cloth. I tied it all on the cross bars and a 1"X4 screwed to the bottom of the tin roof (last alum. panel was screwed to the pt 1X4 to keep anchor it. It also has a1 1/2 to 2 ft apron staked to the ground on the outside. For doors I now have 3 cyclone fence gates with hardware cloth also attached to them.For latches I use gate driveway type anchors?ah, I drove a pipe in the ground and the anchor can be lifted up or down. I also have latches at the top attached to the cross board , but don't use those, the bottom anchors are really tight.i can and have moved the inner fences around for different sets of birds.I put pond rock on the ground to hose down.(I wished I'd been able to cement it firsta nd pour rocks into that). I have added two small gates with hardwarew cloth attached (those short garden gates for a 18" fence that looks like wrought iron, H.D> & Lowes carry them. 20$ for 2 sections, I use one on each lower end and have cut the inner hardware cloth for 6" X16" so I can open the gates to hose out the pens, before I added the mini gates the gunk would build up on the hardware cloth and clog it. So I had to add clean outs. The Aviary is on a slope, If I'd put the gates onthe slope I could have hosed out through them, but didn't...Oh, well hindsight In the winter I add tarp pieces to the sides for windbreaks and tupperware type bins with straw in them with the front cut down for nests. I had just used hay the first year, but was hard to clean out and separate from the rock and the straw clogged the wire...Mess to really get out.

We did the same but for a 2 stall stable for out miniatire horses. We only had 2 at the time so it was great. Now we have 4 minis and a pony mule so 2 get feed in the stalls, 2 feed pans are hung on the outside of the closed doors for another 2 and the mule gets hers in a pan. It worked out great for us

Gofasterstripe yours is nicer a Real Carport, : stronger. Ours does not have as many supports and hubby said the tarp gave it structual stability, but I didn't want to use the tarped sides and top. (I did cut it up , because it is a nice tarp and use it for my hale bale covers). I got it cheap enough to make it worth it. I also used primed tin, but had to paint it with a roller as it started to rust.

. It is hotwired top and bottom and the day fence around it. A snake and rats/mice are the only varmits that have gotten in.....

What kind of roofing did you guys use? Is it something that would withstand wind and snow?
