AW! Look at the little duckling's beak :)

Awwww....so now my question is about my egg. It's cracked and pieces are raised up. No beak or hole yet. The chick is peeping and the egg is rocking but this has been going on since 8:00 last night. Not really any progress do I try to put a hole in it. there is a spot that may have a hole it has like four pieces of lifted shell. The peeping is less as I'm guessing he's tired. I just dont want him to die or do anything stupid on my part.

Peel some of the shell off then use the pin to pick the membrane, make a small hole and the chick should do the rest.If any blood is seen STOP, and place the egg back in the bator for about 8 hours and try again. Use a damp papertowel on the membrane too because you don't want it to get dry. If your chick still is not progessing in the next 12 hours make the hole a bit bigger. I hope this helps!

Ok, I did it....I was sooooooooooooo nervous, I've never done anything like that before. Lifted up the broken piece of shell and a few pieces fell off. I picked the membrane....no blood and as soon as I did the little guy is rockin and rolling and chirping. Hopefully I didnt traumatize it or kill it but I think if I would have left it it would have been a bad situation. It kept me up all night peeping and the pip got a little bigger than it was it for the entire day...now 5:00 p.m..other than a few movements and peeps. Fingers crossed!

I was only going to check every hour but being that I'm so excited and want to watch I just went up there. More shell has fallen off and I can see more shell lifting as he pecks at it. Good sign!
