They are cute when the are little:

Of course, I think the neighbors' dogs are cute, too..... until they go after my chickens! To be fair, I have never lost a chicken to anything other than a dog.

Wow - that one's actually cute, so it must be really young. I don't mind possums personally, but sure think they're ugly critters normally.

We use to have one that would eat the cat food we put out in our storage shed. He'd scare the bejezus out of me when I'd go out and find him there eating - he'd hiss and glower...lol. We just let him be and he eventually either died or moved on, not sure which.

Cute in an egg stealing, chicken killing kinda way. Not to meantion they have babies that follow in their parents footsteps.

and they LOVE chicken feed. We had one that was living under the chicken house, not the best place for the little creature to live. We trapped him and relocated him about 200 acres away. We have had to kill several this winter in the coop. They will go in while it is still daylight and hide behind the feed bin-and then come out in the dark. Hubby blew a hole in my coop on night with his 223. ugh.

They're as thick as the raccoons around here, and I let them live, just like I let raccoons live. If your birds are properly cooped and the runs are safe, no possum is a threat.

I let mine free range in turns, and my day threats are hawks and eagles. Night threats are what coops are for.
