axe alternative

I put my chicken on a light diet for the night and then in the morning I have an upside down traffic cone nailed to a tree outside with the tip cut off for a slightly bigger opening so their head will fit and I let them sit for about 20 mins till they relax and then I let them go peacefully and don't have to worry about aim

Production facilities use a killing cone for a reason. While I only process about 50 birds a year, I still use a cone. I just use a highway blaze orange cone and cut the tip off so that the head comes out of the cone the appropriate amount.

Check out the video and watch all of the PolyFace youtube stuff you can. Great information:

I use the broomstick method to do rabbits, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, etc. If it'll do a rabbit, it'll do poultry. Obviously I don't use it on the ruminants, but it's been tempting a few times lol

We use three killing comes with five gallon pails set up underneath. Once the blood congeals, it goes into the dump pile with the plucked feathers, feet, heads, and guts once processing is complete.

You can also eat the feet and guts or give them to the dogs. Not so sure about letting them have the blood though. I know some recipes call for chicken blood.

Sometimes we will pull the livers and hearts. I'm not too interested in the feet, or blood... Just me personally. Thank you though for the tip!

I was talking to a cousin of mine at a reunion a few years back, he was part of a large broiler operation in the mid south. He was telling me that every bit of the birds were used, or sold for others to use in some form or another. One thing he told me that surprised me was they got more money for the feet than they did for the drum sticks. I believe he said they were shipped to Asia.
