All the fish in water and the eagle HAS to take a chicken!? We're inland but this is the season for Cooper's Hawk (chicken hawk) youngsters to test their mettle. We have one youngster that loves to soar overhead but thankfully it's nice that he screeches to let us know he's overhead.

The baby is such a cutie! How are your two bird patients doing?

We have HUNDREDS of bald eagles here so they can be an issue sometimes! usually birds like cemanis and ducks are so alert when they arte outside they usually notice them. and yes a big fat easy chicken is better to them than getting wet when its cold outside catching a fish! :)

both are still alive this morning, although I expected the cemani would be. The duck tho he is in quite a bit rougher shape. hes still alive and I'm packing these two birds to my brother and sisterinlaws place to babysit for them.

I'm glad to hear they're alive! When I have an injured or sick bird I give one drop on the side of the beak of children's no-iron Poly-Vi-Sol vitamin. It has just the basic A, B, C, D, E vitamins and really helps healing and perkiness in distressed birds. It's a human-potency vitamin so I just give one drop 2 or 3x a week until the bird is healthy. After that, I will give just one drop one time a week to healthy chickens plus Rooster Booster vitamins in their daily feed. I hope ducky makes a complete recovery!

haha while i was babysitting my nephew and my bro and sister in laws place i had the chicken and the duck, well she (the cemani) walked to the back and i hadnt heard her so i creep to the back and shes just perched on the crib rail. they dont use that crib yet so i just put a towel under her and went back to the living room. well a few hours after we left i get a call from my sister in law telling me that she found an egg in her kids crib. this is my set of cemanis i hatched last september and ity has been winter so i have seen no eggs from them at all until then! and it came out of the wounded one haha my sister in law thought it was funny.

The cemani must be on a good road to health to feel relaxed enough to lay an egg! Usually injury/illness stresses hens not to lay so she must be doing great! The funniest egg we ever got was in a diaper from a chicken we had to keep in-house to recuperate from an illness.

Yeah I was surprised! Not only that out of the 18 others in the batch I hatched her out of she is the first to lay. I do think that is because she has been inside. But she has a big gash on her (I'll post a picture of it in the morn) so I definitely expected no eggs from her. Lol
