Azure blue

My azure blues lay medium sized eggs at best! Everything I read and researched said they laid large eggs but mine are quite small compared to my large - jumbo sized brown eggs. The birds themselves are small and flighty- we call them the speed chickens. No problem with feed or anything as they get later feed, free choice oyster shells , and free range on 20 acres. What am I doing wrong! :(
If they are younger the eggs should get bigger in size. I do have one that lays Medium. My birds are now 2 years. I'll not buy Azures again. They have great layer feed along with oyster shells but the shell quality from 2 of the 4 is very poor. That coupled with the crazy attitude they have makes this the last time for me. I don't like the extremely large comb. I'm sure others have better,

This has been a very interesting thread, Thanks all for sharing! We have what I think is an azure blue. She was supposed to be a buff orp but she looks just like other blue azures I’ve seen in pictures. She is our most gentle, friendly bird - great with kids, and probably my favourite chicken of the batch! She will sit on my shoulder while I clean the coop, and flies up onto my head if I let her. She likes to go to bed early - way earlier than the others… my spirit animal. 😆 From other reviews I’ve read, it seems like this breed can be great personality-wise when raised with care from chicks …but they tend to be flighty and skittish when raised in hatcheries.
