B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

looks like to me you have 3 hens and 1 rooster

Yep! I actually got a total of 2 cockerels and 6 pullets. One of the little cockerels has severely crooked toes. I'm going to try to splint them tomorrow to see if I can correct them at least partially.

i had a red dorking cockrel (i hatched) that had one foot w/curled toes. i made a shoe for him and kept him in it for months. when i thought i helped his toes and foot i took the shoe off, but w/in a few days he was back to curly toes. i started correction immediately.

isnt he a cutie?

can you see his shoe? i made it out of a rubber sandal/flip-flop i bought from the dollar store.
but this didnt correct his curled toes on his right foot, unfortunately. i must say there was a period of a few weeks that i did not have a shoe on his foot, so this could of made a difference w/his rehab.
hope this helps

It does help, so thank you very much. I've been debating the best method for treating the little guy and will probably stock up on supplies so if one method doesn't work maybe another will. I've read about creating sandals (like what you did) from cardboard, splints from pipe cleaners, etc, and all using vet wrap to secure everything. I just really hope it helps him. This is a photo of the chick I'll be treating:

His left foot started out with crooked toes too,but has mostly corrected. His right foot became noticeably worse. It's sad, because if you look at his fifth toes they point up nicely, and he's otherwise growing and developing so well.

Hello! I have red dorkings and I'm working with breeders in the sustainable poultry network to help educate people about the dorking breed. I also will be breeding my dorkings to the American standard of perfection.

Hello and welcome to the Dorking Club. I started buying Dorkings just this year. I hatched a few eggs and bought some chicks and then some older hens all from the same breeder.
I recently lost my RD cockrel to (?) not sure what killed him, may have been the change in food i made recently. I am very sad that I lost him. So, i am currently in the market for a RD chick/cockrel. I have been talking w/breeders, one in NY and one in FL. you are a tiny bit closer to me, northern Idaho.
do you ship chicks? and what is your price for your birds?
I have RD hens and SGD's (3 hens & a rooster) I also have 2 SGD/Am mixed hens and one SGD/Am cockrel.
nice to meet you.

I know this breeder is still quite a distance from you, but have you talked to them?
