Are these photos (with the children holding chicks) SG or Red? Boy, they sure are CUTE!
Yep, thanks Karen for replying about the chicks! ;) These are form eggs I got from Karen (KI4GOT) and I'll have to take another look at them to see what I've got, the flock was still mixed colors at the time I got the eggs, but I know I have at least the one red pullet in there (the other pullet disappeared), and out of the 5 cockerels, I think I have quite the variety, one looks red, one or two look silver gray, and the last couple have black heads... I'll have to post some updated pictures and see what you think! ;)

Quote: I should have specified they were most likely reds... the flock was free ranging at the time with sg, red and colored together. (for java's benefit that is... she may not have been following the thread at the time when you got the eggs from me. 8)

I just ate the last week's worth of free ranged eggs for dinner.all 8 of them. LOL (me hubby dog and rooster that is...)

I have read that there is a breeder of good reds in OK. I've not been able to locate him. If anyone has a contact please PM me. I would order chicks from Horstmann as I love the one red cockerel that hatched from him, but I am in the embargoed zip codes, and PO kills eggs from the East Coast in to me. I would really like to set up a couple of Dorking breeding flocks and can get Silver Greys from the University of Arkansas but need a source for reds.

I've been following along on this thread and hope to learn more about these beautiful birds.

TIA

Contact Rudy Troxel and see who got his Reds: https://sites.google.com/site/triangleacrespoultry/professional/reddorkings

I'd like to see pics of the SGDs from UofA, if there ever are any. (Off topic- my little splash pullet is laying. DH loves the blue eggs.)

With all these new Dorking breeders, we really all should pitch in and revitalize the Dorking Breeder's Club. http://www.dorkingbreedersclub.webs.com/

It's mostly inactive because Jim Parker can't do it all on his own.

I'm sorry! I just sold my cockerel and pullet two weeks ago because I only hatched those two and didn't need another cockerel anywhere. I figured I would hatch larger number next spring to start the breeding pen.

I an already okay with poopy eggs..I guess it is just part of it. Alas out 9 pullets /ladies are not ready to lay yet... I am sp proud, two are really coming in to them selves. We have 9 ladies and 6 boxes so I guess we are good. No crowding.
That nesting box sounds nice but extra work.. our coop is nothing special just some boxes we can take out and dump to clean. Access from inside or outside the coop but secure in their run area. I am just happy they go in at nite.
:p
