Still only pipped this morning (it's 6am right now) but I still hear movement.

Hi! I'm new to Dorkings and I have some questions! I bought some Dorking chicks that are hybrids. SGD roo over a RIR hen. When these grow up, what do I do as far as breeding since these aren't purebred and I don't have a pure parent? I saw how you did the same cross with your Dorking. Are you doing this to improve the breed? I would love to get some eggs or chicks that are purebred Dorkings eventually after I see how these do. Thanks!

Marie:)

I'm going to have to defer to people that know the genetics a little better. I did the opposite, and put a red rooster over my silver grey hen to produce a sexlink chick... girls are red, boys are white. I don't know what you'd get if you did the opposite... anyone?

Jen, I have two babies.

Both girls, I think... I'll post pics later. Hopefully one of Renee's chicks will be a boy!

Very good!!

I'm still learning the genetics...

Here's a link to some pictures, both of the two red dorkings just hatched, and of the RIR x Dorking sexlinks.

Yay, Tori!!!!

Congratulations! Funny -- I got all girls from Jen too!

Marie -- What color are your chicks? Do they have 5 toes?
I tried playing with it in the genetics calculator & there are so many variables if you were to breed the chicks you have together-- it would be incredibly confusing.

Hurray!!!! Congratulations!

Llewelyn (my red roo) has done amazing with throwing girls! Of the four I hatched last week, I have 3 girls!

I forgot to mention that another hen was used, she was a black sex-link. I have 7 chicks and all have the 5 toes except for my solid black roo. He looks pretty pitiful. Here are some pics not of all of them but an idea on the colors.

I just candled the last (third) egg, and I still see movement!! There is hope!!

I have a pip!
wee.gif
I may need to help it though because I'm an idiot.

I candled last night to check on them and I had an internal pip!

I noted their lockdown date as today but today is hatching day!

I usually set Sundays but this was a special batch because one of my hens was injured. Thankfully she's pulled through ok but I feel bad for messing up their lockdown.

I moved them into the hatcher last night, upped the humidity and

, woke up to a pip.

Will keep an eye on them in case I do need to help since it's my mistake that's caused them to be to dry in lockdown.

That cross should give you pure silver hens and silver/red males. I would guess that anything with red in it's feathers is a male. You might have still been able to color sex by head markings. Not sure about that because the RIR is not duckwing like the Dorking.
