BaaKaaawk's Spring 2020 Coop Build Thread :)

Today's update. I have a roof! Kinda. I have Rafters I guess. But nice rafters darnit, complete with hurricane clips because... Carolina!

Tomorrow I'll build the cupola and put up the roof decking, and who knows I may start working on the siding as well!

My little helper wanted to jump ion the pictures to help with scale. :)

Absolutely!!

Are you going to block all these openings or leave open for ventilation?

It's hard to tell in that image but I had to put that 2x there because I used it to hang a 6" overhang on the front eave. I have one on the back as well. The 3 holes in-between the other rafters (and in the cupola, not yet on there) I planned to leave open with wire to allow for ammonia escape out of the top of the coop. I learned that in your thread. ;)

It doesn't touch the shed roof there, just hard to get good angles on it- but I left room for my metal roofing to slide under there.

Nice work , that coop is gonna be beautiful .

Thanks! I think when it starts coming together with the exterior and the trim and all it will be really special. My arms and back are sure ready to be done with the framing though! And my legs are done climbing ladders to the high parts for sure haha. Who knew building a coop was such exercise! :)

Everyone should have a project like this in times like this. Fuel for the mind, body and spirit.
