I really don't think they would no offense.

No? Why not?
Especially a younger deer, tender meat could be used in soup kitchen for the homeless.

Yes here in Ohio, the meat is given to low income people or free stores.

Understand how you feel, you are looking at them like pets, they see them as food also. They could save one buck, but you have no idea how many time this happens.

Just to many deer. I have had my pet deers, and in most state you can if you buy it from a deer farmer. Wish I could get you a permit, but dont think you even have a place to keep one.

I have alot of land and still both of my pet deer were kill by DOGS running them in the pen until they broke their necks.

Just enjoy her, dont go telling everyone you have her, keep her in a cover pen, until you can let her loose. remember ONLY thing you need to worry about are hunters and dogs. Deer are not taught how to find food, does will be find with wild deer.

Mine even as tame as they were would play with the wild ones here. Mine would follow me like a little puppy.

Dont worry to much you are doing fine with her

after reading some of these posts I have to put in my two cents. First off get a goat for babe so she can become social with it like someone said earlier. Second I would do as you said-take her to the rental house and visit her often. Third dont say anything to anyone about having a deer and keep her until after hunting season then let her loose and let her decide if she wants to go or not. I commend you on your heart felt compassion and hard work with this fawn. Do what your heart tells you and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I dont know you but am proud there are still people like you who do "what is right" in the heart not "what is right" in the eyes of the law. You have a great dad and your gaining experiences some only dream of. You do have a beautiful fawn and I too am jealous.

We have 5 acres but no trees it would be obvious to neighbors the rental home sits on a big piece of wooded property that we don't even mow because its so heavy of brush and their is deer trails everywhere. We took her she could smell the other deer and tried to follow the path.

I'm assuming this is a buck then? Its not hard to tell.

You can easily get castration bands and a casterater pretty cheap if you need.

Wow. After spending the last 45 min reading all of these posts I have to say. You are insane. And I'm sure I will recieve bashing for it, but all of you who will do the bashing, if you really think about it, you will agree that deer should have remained in the wild where she belonged.
I am an animal person, and love them too, but you have to realize what you did was wrong from the get-go and you're not going to be "rewarded" by having a tame pet deer.
First mistake was taking it. Second was NOT returning it immediatley! The mother was most likely there looking for it. You say u did it due to being compasionate for the animal etc. Do you know what it's like to lose a mother? or for a mother to lose a child? Probably the two most painful things in the world. And that's EXACTLY what you/your father did to this fawn. You have NO IDEA if the mom was around or not, and I would liek to think that if she had been hit nearby your father would have seen her and realized this was probably her fawn. But he DIDNT see her laying dead somewhere so guess what? Mostl likely you took her baby from her! Yes the fawn was not safe where she was, but all he needed to do was move her off the road gosh! As far as keeping her, you're very lucky the vet you called didnt turn you in because he should have! What your doing IS ILLEGAL in your state, and the others who have said no place is going to take her because she's a WILD deer, not from a farm! Do you really think you're going to be able to hide her from your neighbors? And you basically have signed her death certificate anyway by making her tame so really calling DNR is probably your BEST option. Along with the fact that your a teenager and already willingly and knowingly breaking the law. I realize you think you're right, but you need to realize the immaturity and selfishness of your decisions and just because you think its right doesnt mean its OK. Laws are in place for a reason. Do you think it's ok for someone who runs over a pedestrain because they're flyign through a stop light trying to get his family member to the hospital to get away with it? No, it's not! And it seems right to him, and many of us at the time, but at the same time, he killed someone because he's breaking the law for his own personal gain. I know it's a dramatic comparison but really you need to get the point. And frankly, you're parents should NOT be enabling you. This deer is not a pet dog that you can feed and walk and play with. And really....you want to "fix" a buck? Do you realize how insane that statement alone sounds? You need to call the proper authoritys and let them do what they deem neccesary. Maybe you can request she not be killed and maybe taken to a zoo or something, but chances are doubtful. And she only has you to thank when they come and shoot her.
Sorry I know it seems harsh, but in all honesty you have the mentality of a teen who is only thinking of "cool a pet deer!" and if you really were thinking of this deers welfare you would have changed things weeks ago.
