Thank you! This is true! Everyone has a different setup that works best for them and sometimes you find your own techniques by trying different ways.
Shes not interested in coming out!! I tried! I’m worried about her being inside all this time! She has a bunch of room but still she always loved to trot about in the garden! She came out for two seconds stood right by coop and the baby was in the door way and mama seemed all nervous and hopped right back in and made baby go back in under her. None of the other chickens were even near her so idk?!Many like myself allow mom and babies to return the flock as soon as hatching is complete. Mom may get into a few tussles, but normally the others don't bother the little ones. If you haven't released yet Keep a close watch for a bit to make sure all goes well.
Mamas good she has her own separate area within the enclosed run. She’s been very busy teaching baby to eat and everything else it’s just the sweetest thing ever! The mama will take them out when she is ready. When she does, be prepared to protect them as she will try her best but, they are very inquisitive and can slip through any fencing that is not hardware cloth plus
they will dig too. Provide some hiding spots that they can run and duck under. I'd get the hardware cloth up as soon as you can to ease your mind and save yourself heartache. Your mama and chicks will need Starter Grower feed and fresh water. Make sure your chicks are eating too. Be mindful to make sure by a headcount that everyone can make it into the coop brooder area every night. If your in a rainy area, keep them under cover until they are feathered out.
Good luck and enjoy this next adventure.
Opted for the brooder I was more comfortable with it. As are they. They’ve been partying hard having disco dance offs and playing a little basketballI would choose to just raise them in the brooder. Some momma’s will also kill the babies if they don’t look like the others, it doesn’t happen often but it does happen.
Ur not intruding at all! And yes I do! I named her Bootsy because of the feathered feet! She’s the D’Uccle in the photo with the little baby. Boots and Bitches I named herHello!
Sorry to intrude, but you have a hen named Bootsy?
This may sound crazy, but I have a young cockerel name Bootsie as well!
Normal. She knows when they are ready. Patience Mama, your Hen knows what she's doing.Shes not interested in coming out!! I tried! I’m worried about her being inside all this time! Why is she showing interest like she wants to come out but then won’t? The mom that is. I noticed this evening the chick had a little bit of feathers missing on back of her(or his) neck. I couldn’t get a close enough look to see if it was from peck mark because Mom isn’t having itNormal. She knows when they are ready. Patience Mama, your Hen knows what she's doing.
