I ordered 8 chicks little to my surprise I got 15 so now I have to go back to the drawing board with the coop .
wondering if they were thinking about dead lose if they were they got carried away lol

It's common for hatcheries to add 'extras' for warmth.

My anxiously awaited for chicks arrived in the mail today. I only ordered 4 -- 2 Amber Links and 2 Easter Eggers. I was practically jumping up and down in the post office for it to be my turn. Had my phone camera all set and ready to go. Opened the box like a kid at Christmas and the 2 little Amber Links were dead. Just wanted to share with people who understand.

I'm so sorry, thats awful. I was going to order from Meyers but was afraid of this very thing. Instead I went to my local feed store, North 40, and picked up 5 chicks. You could certainly do that and pick up a couple red sex links to round out your littles? You are right, the little red ones are so cute!

Thank you very much. I did just that, went straight to TSC because I'd seen Amber Links there just 2 days before. But they were all gone. I took my little dead chicks in with me and was going to ask if I could just buy 2 instead of the minimum of 4. But the girl didn't want me to pay; she said just pick out what you want. I picked out 2 black stars that are about a week old -- they didn't have any younger. That was so nice of that Tractor Supply girl!

I am so sorry! My kids were excited to go pick the chicks up and I was so scared to open the box for this reason. I hope the other two are doing well.

Thank heaven I had no kids with me! Can't even imagine going through that! I'm so happy that didn't happen! How are your babies? Bet the kids just love them!

The other 2 seem to be quite well, other than some loose, watery bowels. I've read that's common with chicks but to keep an eye on it if it doesn't clear up soon.
