No movement. Not surprising, but still disappointing. I went ahead a unplugged the incubator and disposed of the egg.
Mama Duck took the babies swimming today. I made it to where the littles couldn't get into the big pool, so Thor wouldn't drown, and gave them a small dish of water instead. Mama can still get into the pool, though. So far Thor has been smart enough not to get into the dish. But even if he did get in, it's not deep enough for him to drown in unless he lays face down in it, and then he'd be dumb enough that he probably wouldn't have survived anyways. =P
Aw, thanks. That's my puppy, Maggie a day or 2 after we got her. She's much bigger now. I miss her tiny little self. She couldn't even fit that tennis ball in her mouth at first. She demolished the thing about a month ago.
Sorry, being all sentimental. I just meant thank you.
Puppies, like chicks, grow up too quick! I loved the pic of Thor and the ducklings by the water. I was wondering how they're going to sort that one out! I've seen a small chick swim once, so it's possible, but not a good idea!
Sorry your bantam egg didn't make it. Would've been nice for Thor to have a chicken buddy.
One less chick to have to worry about swimming, though. And being a bantam, he may have gotten trampled by the ducklings as they got bigger.
Mama is teaching the babies to preen as we speak. It is so cute! Thor is just running around trying to learn to use his wings. I think the ducklings are jealous at how big his wings are. She actually walked them around today, further than usual. Watching them is so cute!
Look who hatched! She hatched all 7 fertile eggs, with only the 1 clear egg left. They are so cute! I think we have 3 pure bantams and 4 RIR/bantam mixes. They are so tiny!
My Cochin chicks! They still don't have names, but they're the cutest little things ever...they're leg feathers are really starting to come in now and they've doubled in size in the past week.
I locked down the incubator tonight after one final candling. I definitely have movement in 3 eggs, the rest are really dark and I can't see through them [I can see the air pocket at the top of the egg though, so hopefully I get more than 3 chicks out of this hatch. They're due Friday, I'm already pacing my house like a mad woman!
