Here are two mommies that are looking after the one baby so far. The other one was sitting on her eggs until she heard the other mom hatch out a baby before she did. So she decide that she wanted on the action to....It is really the cuties thing when it is done the natural way.

My 10 Mo Old RIR hen had 11 chicks in October, she was such a great mother. And motherhood changed her. I hand fed her that last 3 days of her confinement, and she will now come to me when I call her, and if she sees me she comes running.

It is sooo fun to see the hens hatch chicks. One of life's greatest pleasures!!

That's my favorite way to hatch chicks, too.

They're all just so happy! Chicks in an artificial brooder are so noisy, but a chick under it's mama is so quiet and happy.

That is so cute! Last spring I had a bantam Cochin hatch 4 eggs and her sister helped set & raise the babies...they did such a good job. I never knew chickens would share mothering....like having your sister to help you when you have a baby.

My Broody Barred Rock hatched out 4 surrogate eggs I finally got for her after she sat in her nest for 2 months. Hatched out in October as well.

She continued to sleep with those 4 happy and healthy chicks in the nest box until they were 6 wks old. She then desided to join the rest of the girls back on the roost at night.

I like this way the best. But i still do incubate. Just cant help myself.
