Yay, updates! any obvious roos yet?

I’m still on the old iphone SE...5 years old now I think? Not fancy at all, but it still works fine!

In the video the white with black streaks comes in for a closeup. I see his comb is growing quickly and even though he is probably the youngest of the bunch he is bigger and already shows dark pink wattles. I’m sad about this. I was most hopeful for this egg and was so excited he hatched and was becoming more beautiful almost daily. Mama is SLW and this was her only egg that hatched. His future is a dinner plate unless someone sees his beauty and they need a rooster. His papa is not human aggressive and has been a good almost-rooster (in august) to the hens. I’m predicting this one will be a good rooster. I’m hoping someone wants him. He’s very curious and he is the only one that comes right up to the cell camera so he’s the movie diva. Lol
I also see, of the 4 black chicks with Marans mamas, all but one are probably cockerels. They have obvious combs. I’m noticing tails are looking wider on male suspects while girlies seem to have narrower tails.

Oh no he’s stunning, he was the only one I kept looking at in the video too. Are no crow collars an option? I’m looking into it as a possibility should I end up with a roo I absolutely love.

Soup is the only option for them out here too... unless he’s good breeding quality, roos are a dime a dozen out here :/

It’s not so much the crowing as it is the numbers. By adding the possible females I just hatched I will have hopefully 18 hens. I already have 2 roosters I love. I’m cutting it close already considering the general standard is 10 hens to 1 rooster. A third rooster would be too hard on the ladies. Maybe I’ll have to name this one “Heartbreaker”.

Considering my babies are one month old now I am going to start a new thread in the forum for raising chicks.
