Baby button quail make everything better.

It's funny, even though it sucks. I'm dreading the thought of a major car repair or having to buy a new car in winter

It'll get better. This week has been awful, so it has to get better, and next weekend, I'll have a house full of BYC'ers and birdies, so I'm just.. looking forward.

And the insurance thing really sucked. I had to get my doc to call them and tell them that no, I'm NOT a drug seeker and don't even take as many narcotics as I should take, because an unscheduled refill is in violation of my pain contract and the insurance was going to stop paying for them altogether forever.

So they made me pay $360 out of pocket for a 1 month supply to last me until the refill.

Canada has social health care, but you have to wait forever to get to see a doctor, and forget it if you need tests or surgery. My mum's Canadian and moved to the states so she could get better access to healthcare, even if she had to pay for it.

Thanks, though. Tonight's just been really awful. I am currently laying on a towel on my bed with a dozen little peepers zooming all over me.

Well, if you used my "50% humidity and 100 degrees days 1-15" and "70% humidity and 99 degrees days 15-18" suggestion, I'm afraid you will be swimming in button babies!! That's what I did with Mrs. AK's eggs, and out of 48 eggs, 18 were clear, and 19 babies hatched! The temp dropped during the hatch (think my son bumped it) or I would have had lots more! There were only 3 (other than the clears) that had quit early on, the rest were full sized chicks, and some had even pipped the membrane!!

ah HA! Shelleys secret revealed!!!!! I must write down NOW! *and i will* LOL!

Yep Shelley - that's what I did this time! Except I'm having trouble getting the humidity up that high these last few days. It was almost 60% this morning so when I get home after work, I'll think of something. Today is day 15!

Fold up a paper towel and either lay it in the incubator and wet it for a still air, or you can try what I do for a forced air... I save all my small yogurt containers, and I fold up the papertowel and stand it in the container so that about 1" is sticking up over the rim. Fill with warm water and place the container right in front of the fan. That raises the humidity pretty quickly, but not too much.

Shelley's found the magic combination, sounds like!

Thanks for the info. I usually use a sponge and paper towel, but since I want the humidity higher than usual, I wet a washcloth and layed that in there. I just keep squirting water on it but it still isn't getting high enough. Our air is just really dry right now. Oh - and I'm using a still air.

Ours too... about 20% inside the house.

If you can get it at least to 65%, you should be ok.

Hee! I thought that was only true in my house. I use a pad of Bounty paper towels on one corner of the hatcher, where I can drip water through an airhole at 'em.
