I just got my first batch of baby chicks, and I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on a better drinker. I have to clear the thing everyday because they get shaving in it and then don't have any water. Do y'all have this problem or do you just clear everyday? Is there anything I can make that is kind of like a hamster bottle?

I got a $5 flip top water bottle from Aldi, drilled a 3/8" hole in the bottom, threaded a poultry nipple into the hole with a dot of food grade silicone and hung it from a cut down wire hanger then hung that over the edge of the brooder. All 11 learned to drink from it after I showed three what it was all about.
Best thing ever! No more poopy water or shavings logged water. They still use it under their coop. I call it the baby bottle.
I can take a picture of it when I get home tonight and post it if you wish.

Yea! I would love to see a picture! :)

I tried this and they still managed to kick shavings into it.
You have to figure out the height to where they can reach the water and not kick too much in. Only a thin layer of shavings are needed and you can have even less where the waterer is. After a week or so I switch to straw and only a little.
