Hi! I have 10 3 week old pullets and 3 of them seem to have a crusty red/black raised spot over their ear areas. I’ve attached a photo of one of the worse ones. Does anyone have any ideas for what I should do? Are they just pecking at each other or is this an infection? I could take them to the emergency vet(I checked and they do see chickens) but this is my first time raising chickens and I’m not sure if this constitutes an emergency haha!

These are my only chickens. They have some small white things on their feathers but I don't really see anything on their skin. I have 10 chicks in an 8 foot by 3foot by 2foot high metal stock tank brooder. They have gone outside a couple of times.

The bird in the photo above now has pretty ruffled looking feathers. Everyone seems to be eating and drinking, no signs of any type of respiratory illness that I've witnessed and my daughter and I spend quite a bit of time with them.

Cannyou check to see if they have mites or lice? Are these you only chickens? Can you describe how many chicks you have, and how large is their brooder?
