I have searched and searched and everything I have found talks about pasty butt…. But I don’t feel like it answers my question of what’s going on with my chick… so hoping y’all can help me.
My baby chick was having pasty butt and I was cleaning his butt but now he seems constipated and can’t poop, now matter how much he tries. He is quite swollen when he tries to poop.
I have given him a warm Epsom bath until he decided he was done and got out on his own. Still hasn’t pooped, I continue clean the very tiny bit that comes out…. Is there anything else I can do for him to help him pass his poop?? They are only about 3 almost 4 weeks old

Have you tried broken coconut oil?
I can’t get him to eat it … I’ve put it on a spoon he won’t eat it … should I try a syringe ? And put it on the side of his beak.. he normally takes food from me without issue..

Welcome To BYC

Can you please post photo of your chick, the vent an any dropping that he may have produced?
What do you feed?
Is he drinking water?

Try giving small chunks of coconut oil, likely he won't take it from spoon, just give him a little piece on the side of his beak.

Make sure he's drinking really well, once hydrated, then offer wet soupy feed to eat.

Are you providing heat? What's your brooder temp on the warm and cold side - photos of housing/brooder may be helpful as well.

I am feeding Manna pro chick starter grower and chick grit… he was doing well and eating and drinking fine, super energetic, he’d get some poo stuck but I’d clean it up. But all seemed normal.

hello,
I am feeding them manna pro chick starter grower and chick grit.
He had been doing great eating and drinking and super energetic. He had some poo stuck but I’d clean it … but other then that he seemed healthy and normal.
I have a heat lamp… which I am realizing is super annoying to regulate heat… but I have a thermometer I put in to check the heat periodically. I just checked it and it’s at 87 degrees.
Should I separate him from the others?

I provided pictures

87F is likely too hot for them at 3-4wks.

Are they trying to stay close to the sides of the tub where it's cooler?

Raise your light a bit, keep food/water on the cool side. They only need one area that is warm, let the rest of the brooder be cool/cold.

Offer the grit free choice, don't mix with the feed.

I'd work or hydration, giving some wet feed as well. Coconut oil could be mixed with a tiny bit of feed to see if he'll take it that way.

The vent sure is swollen. I'd keep it moist with a bit of ointment, oil, anti-inflammatory cream, etc.

Separating him is probably not a bad idea, if he's getting picked at. He's gonna stress over separation, so see how that goes.

Lamps truly are a pain to adjust. I abandoned those years ago and switched to using a heating pad cave which works very well. The chicks have that one warm spot to go under and you don't have to worry about a bulb breaking. This year I was able to get a brooder plate, very pleased with that too. Heating pad caves/plates, etc. your chicks also have a more natural sleep/wake cycle, this way they don't scream their heads off when you start weening them off light 24/7 LOL

Thank you so much… I will do that and hope he does better.
They actually seem to go to the warmest spot … I actually had him and my little black on perch on the side of the bin closer to the light … so I don’t know if that is what effected him bc he is now big enough to do that .

He’s also not managed to pass anything yet… every time he tries to poop I clean the tiny bit that it there.
