We just got four new chicks in the mail today. We brought them home and noticed that three of the chicks had little spots of blood on top of their beaks. Closer observation reviled the culprit. Our little buff orp. chick. She won't stop pecking the other chick's beak/faces! Does anyone know of a way to get the chick to stop pecking at the other chick's faces? We haven't seen any toe picking or feather pulling. Just this. Please! Any help is welcome!!!

Try putting some "distractions" in the brooder. An empty toilet paper roll with some dots drawn on it might work. Also, make sure the brooder is big enough so that the other chicks can get away and avoid this particular chick.

Sometimes you have to teach them how to drink. If they don't figure it out, dip their beaks in the water. Same thing goes for the food. They aren't born knowing what's food or that they need to drink. You have to be momma hen and show them.
