Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

Quote: "Blue" or "Splash" refers to the color of the feathers when they're adults, but if they're white rocks, they'll feather out solid white. One of my best hens is a white rock. I've been considering getting more, but I'm mostly hatching out my own right now.

If you do have white rocks, you got good chickens. Although it's impossible to say exactly what kind of chicken each individual bird will be, they tend to be friendly, intelligent, and solid layers, not to mention heavy-bodied if you're interested in butchering them. (Winnie is lucky she's our favorite, that's all I'm saying! lol )

I went by TSC today to get some chick food...ended up with 3 straight run EE and 3 red Sex Link pullets.

I had a rough day at work today. I came home to find not one but FOUR new babies in the 'bator!

Here they are, fresh out of the 'bator. All of them are at least half barred rock. Three of them are from my friendliest hen, Sweet Basil. I really hope they inherited her sweet personality.
Well, hopefully this new life tempered your rotten work day.

You take them out of the bator before they dry? Maybe they're dry, but were just gunky.

My April Fool's baby pics from today (each pic is a different chick; ignore the burrito box):

Sister's cat is in the background of this one...

And this one; and I think Fat Cat is on the right in the back there...

Yeah, that's Fat Cat getting a drink...

And the 5-6 week olds that are about ready to move outside...

What is the 3rd chick under your 5-6 week olds? I have one just like her but I don't know what she is.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words I love my babies their not going anywhere especially too the block. But my hubby says we should only have one male in the hen the hen house.

I do. I have a webcam going on the eggs, and if I leave the chicks in the incubator, they knock the eggs out of view or mess up the webcam itself. So, pretty much as soon as they've hatched and found their feet, I move them to a "baby box" where they can finish drying off and learn to move around. After that, they move to the brooder.

how do you maintain humidity when you open up the incubator?

Their breeder said at two weeks, FOR two weeks. Stop handling the cockerels. I'm trying it. I can't get good pic's in their brooder with the red light. But here are the girls, growing like weeds

Thanks again vnsseed!!!!

I'm guessing that is to have a positive influence on their eventual disposition? I'm intrigued by the suggestion. What effect is that supposed to have on them? Has anyone else heard of/tried this?
