Hi JRL1438,
This is the first time I've used the Brinsea Mini Advance, and I loved it! It is so easy to use. You just set it, and refill the water pod every other day. I kept a record of my eggs' weight loss and adjusted the water level based on that. I've used a styrafoam incubator in the past and had trouble with the temperature fluctuating. You won't have that problem with the Brinsea. It is spot on. The only negative is the small size, but like you said, it does keep me from over doing it. I would definitely recommend using this incubator.
Have you checked with your local wildlife department? If you are planning on catching and dispatching of the animal you may be within your rights to protect your livestock. Not sure of most polices on catch and release of bocats, but it is never a good idea with any predator. We have lots of predators out here, but this bobcat comes right on our property in the middle of the day, we just mowed all of our tall grass because I'm pretty sure it was being used as cover. We are going to get a live trap to try and catch him (or her).
I love these incubators, it is so neat to easily be able to see them! I opted for a larger and also much harder to observe model. I dream of upgrading to a cabinet incubator!

We did release a couple skunks when we first started our flock (mostly because I have a soft spot for them) but it really is better for the animal if you quickly and humanly as possible kill it. We have delt with fox, skunks, possum, and feral cats. Sorry to say but a quick bullet is a better death than slow starvation or a wound from a territorial fight!
Pretty sure the silkie mix is, im not sure on the andalusians just yet. Hope that splash is not, because its such a pretty chick!I'm going to take a shot in the dark that these three are roos! Pretty sure the top Andalusian is giving the camera the rooster stink eye already![]()
