We LOVE our babies - but we aren't shy about them. We handle them, feed them by hand, cuddle them, hold them, sit in the grass with them when it's warm enough and sunny enough, let them feel the grass and sun. We'd never leave them unattended outside or anything, and they do spend a lot of their day in the broody box with their lamp and water and feed, but we make sure we spend a lot of time with them. The birds we've hand raised over the last year have been gems - even our cochin rooster (who is as big as our dogs) is still docile and sweet and can be handled. The chick was never in any danger of being harmed by the baby - there was two adults just out of the frame, her mom, and my fiance - he was ready to grab the chick as needed, and mom kept making sure that baby didn't topple over, put the chick in her mouth, etc. The whole photo shoot took maybe five minutes total, and was just as sweet as could be. Baby Etta is so curious about things and just giggled with delight the whole time the chickens were running around in front of her!

Here's a shot of Cluck (HR Cluckenstuff) when she was a day old:

And here's a shot of our other baby, Nugget, the same day:
