Baby Chick Sudden Death

The ND is good. Just keep her at a good temp.
Qtip soaked in water and held against side of beak so it slowly wicks into mouth,
rub front of throat and under to beak to stimulate swallowing.

I bought two silver laced wyandottes today 1 1/2 wks old. Brought them home and put them in the brooder (drive home was an hour). I put the two baby chicks in the brooder and they just laid there, I figured they were just tired and not used to their environment. About an hour later the one chick flapped her wings and stretched her legs out behind her and died. Could this have been from stress? Could her being cold on the drive home been the factor? I had the heat blasting in my car to the point where I was dripping sweat when I got home. I am having the WORST luck with chickens :-(

Yes travel stress is one the biggest killer of baby chicks some whose really weak inside didn't tolarate that much stress and die as baby chick need a warm calm environment

Here I'm Suggesting that chick who.hatched in a mild summer are stronger then the chick whose hatch in winters I don't know why my grandma told me this

You should buy.some.more chicks
Make sure when u select they are very active & noisy

The chick I was worried about I gave some nutri-drench straight and dipped her beak in the water a few times. The water has sav a chick in it, she is still laying down a lot but I just went in to check on her and she was up and drinking water, also pecking at the crumble I put on the ground around her. Hoping she makes it!

Wonders why the chicks were so stressed, the car ride shouldn't have been an issue if it was warm, enough but not too warm, in the box(?) they were transported in.

Where did you get them from....they may have been ailing there??

Sorry I just now saw this! I got them from a farm, they were fine when i picked them out & the other one is doing fine now
