This chick hatched a few days ago and I noticed it still wasn’t walking. The leg doesn’t look right. Is it broken? What do I do?

Hatching chicks at home, you will sometimes have problems with temperature or humidty fluctuation that can cause leg problems. Giving chick vitamins with riboflavin can be helpful. Try to get a picture of the chick holding it standing to show the legs and feet clearly. Slipped tendon, leg bone deformities and splay legs are possible. Some chicks may have brain damage and cannot stand upright without arching backward. Try vitamins, give it water orally, and try to feed it wet chick feed. A padded cup or wineglass can sometimes be used to get it standing upright.

Is it possible to upload pictures from different angles? It’s hard to see as it is..
Do I see it’s bottom is very dirty too?
has it eaten and drinking since hatch?

it still has some of its umbilical cord stuff attached. It’s dried up. I’ve been giving him water with a dropper but haven’t gotten him to eat.

That baby is starving to death slowly if you aren't giving any nutrients inside the water.. That's why it doesn't have energy to open it's eyes. :(

Poultry Cell is good suggestion.. otherwise if you wanna save this chick.. (I personally would end it quickly now).. you might consider tube feeding..

Sorry you and that baby face this. :fl

There’s “save a chick“ inside the water. he opens his eyes when he’s drinking. He also tries to get up but can’t.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying!

That won't be enough to help this chick.. as it works well for mild stuff to help boost a bird along. But one that's really in desperate need will benefit more from a straight vitamin supplement.. In this case Poultry Cell is recommended as top choice..

Otherwise.. if you have a human B complex on hand or already have Poly vi Sol baby vitamins (no iron).. add some in to your current solution. Last ditch effort for me would be feeding straight raw egg yolk if I had nothing else on hand.

Did you have other chicks hatch fine along with this one? Were they from your own stock or shipped?

Have you seen any droppings passed by this chick yet?

they‘re from my chickens. I hatched my first batch from them started off with 9 eggs, one was a quitter, and the others hatched. One died a few days after hatch. It didn’t absorb all the yolk. The rest were healthy. This is my second batch in a brand new incubator and I again started with 9, one wasn’t even fertile, all hatched, 2 died the day after the hatch, 2 had splayed legs (fixed) 2 have wry neck, and then there’s this one. The rest are fine. 😥 this isn’t my first time hatching either. I’ve never experienced such a bad hatch. I don’t think it’s pooped yet. I have some poly vi sol being delivered today for the wry neck chicks.

Dealing with a couple of chicks who would never eat or stand is one the reasons I stopped hatching eggs. I try to help them for a day or two, and put them down if they won’t eat or stand. I hope that you can save her, but I would put her down if she is not responding.
