Yes she does seem short in the rump. Wish I had something helpful to say but I am a total novice. I do hope she continues to do well, she has a sweet face.

It is probably a good thing that she isn't growing feathers there, so she is less likely to clog up.

Also is she/he a frizzle?

Oops I just saw she is a frizzle. Where did you get your eggs? The problem with frizzles is that if you breed frizzle to frizzle you end up with defects and immunity issues. Therefore you HAVE to breed frizzle to non-frizzle. i.e. Cochins- there are frizzle and normal so if you are raising frizzles then you probably either want all hens frizzled or just the roo frizzled. Then you don't have to worry about the frizzles breeding and causing major defects. So then you would only keep just frizzled hens or frizzled Roos for that pen.

But as it says in the APA standard of perfection any breed and variety of chicken can come in a frizzle. So it is hard to say what kind of frizzle you got.

The breeder says she only breeds to Cochins , I also have one now from the last hatch with a lame leg. I had one like that before who developed a bad leg at 2 weeks old and died! I'm wondering if frizzles need extra vitamins or protein? I've given them vitamins in their water the first few weeks and feed them boiled eggs but I wonder if they need vitamins all the time?

That's probably why she has got this defect.

But then if you say she only breeds cochins..hmm..




She is looking very sweet. There isn't much in the way of helping her body shape.
Just keep doing what your doing and see how she goes.

I dont know how well you know the breeder but if she says she breeds cochins then she could still be breeding frizzle to frizzlees as they are another variety of cochins. So I would ask the breeder if she breeds frizzles to frizzles.

I really don't think she's breeding frizzles to frizzles because before she sold me the eggs she told me if I want to keep frizzle chickens not to keep a frizzle rooster for that exact reason. But there's no doubt out of all the chickens I've hatched the only ones with health issues are the frizzles. I keep polysporin on the young one with the deformed bum and I think that helps infection from setting in and the poop from sticking to her.

The older one with the bad legs on the other hand I have no idea what to do with her. I just keep her in a separate pen and she can manage to wobble around to get food and water but if I leave her out the other peck her. I tried bandaging her legs like you would do to a baby chick with straddle leg but that didn't work

Any other suggestions?

I've never had a leg problem but if you just search into BYC "Chick leg problems" or something along those lines there are many many threads on the subject and many ways to help them.
I know I saw one lady make a little car out of Lego for her chick.lol.
