Hi everyone,
I have a 4 chicks with their mother. I have one with droopy wings, stool seems fine, eats and drinks, but not quite as active as the others and he has labored breathing. He has no discharge from anywhere!!! I am feeding medicated chick feed. I have 12 chickens, all free range. No one is sick or ever has been. This is my very first illness!!!! I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this could be and should I treat all of them, including momma with Tylan just to be safe. Tomorrow I am going to get some save a chick to put in their water!! Any other suggestions. I don't want to move him away from his mom, so I would rather treat everyone!!!

Well, there isn't much to go on. Could you open his mouth up and took a good look inside?

Also, just spend a lot of time watching him. Sometimes they'll give you little clues. Anything out of the ordinary. You might notice some sneezing, regurgitation, trouble swallowing, eye rubbing or beak wiping in excess.

I've been watching him.... he sleeps a lot... eats a little and drinks. Just put sav a chic in there water this morning. He did drink some. I am going to treat them, including mom with Tylan in there water. Just as a precautionary measure. I noticed he sorta had a hard time swallowing when he was eating, what could that be? I am going to make them a mash with egg yolks here in a few minutes. Can I also give everyone a little bit of yogurt or apple sauce. No one else seems down, as of yet, but I would like to keep everyones immune systems up!!!

someone please give me some advice!!!!
Sadly He may have a bad heart and may not make it if he is just a few days old and been like this from day one

WAs he totally well and now breathing hard? or well for days and got sick?

.Did you try and give him a tiny bit of starter mixed with a LOT of water and dash of sugar with a eye dropper a few times a day ?That should perk him up in a days time if he isnt taking off well and its the only problem. If it doesnt work it doesnt sound too good.

The egg might be good maybe a dash of yogurt but i wouldnt give them a lot of diff things if they are just a few days old. Might upset their tummies this young
He may have lung or heart problem he might not get enough oxigen as he eats b/c of that
I had one like that couldnt eat well
I fed it with an eye dropper every couple hours He would gasp for a bit every drop he drank lasted for 5 days
I hoped for a miracle when he lasted so long ...but he didnt make it.

He was born on the 4th of July, they were inside in the A/C with mom since he hatched!! I just built them their own coop and put them in it yesterday afternoon. It isn't really bad down here at the moment. They are in the shade and there is a really good gulf breeze blowing. Seems perfect. I just noticed this yesterday morning. He has been fine for weeks!!! Seems like he may have some sort of respiratory issue going on. The rest seem really well!!!

Does sound like a germ Do they eat medicated starter? Might have cocci as it can be in dirt. But also maybe its a lot hotter than it was in the house maybe this one guy cant take the change since it happened right after he went out. Good idea to put the meds in the water though
Also have you put your hand down on the level they are at or a thermometer? Sometimes up in the air where we stand it feels good but for small animals of any kind dogs birds etc..its degrees hotter down low. Just some ideas.Even my little dog on walks i would put my hand down by the sidewalk and boy how hot it was !
