Hi all - we just purchased 7 more baby chicks yesterday. We noticed one of our Rhode Island Reds had hard stool caked onto her rear end. We did a warm water booty bath and was able to de-clog her and get the hardened poop off. She had 3 poops right away. She continues to act lethargic and like the other birds were bothering her. So we now have her isolated so we can monitor her food/water intake and to see if she poops.
Any tips on what else to do besides keeping her rear-end clean?
Is it okay to have her isolated - she is chirping up a storm now that she sees the other chicks and is making me feel horrible for separating them.
Anything else I can do to help her get through this? Pedialyte for the lethargy?? (is pedialyte safe for chicks?)
Also anyone with experience with this - how long does it usually last - I heard a high number of these will die.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
