Okay our Labrador killed a baby chicken we had. I had gotten eggs and put them under a brooding hen. She hatched one and was so happy. The dog got it this morning. I don’t know how. We had them separated. I am so sad. The baby chicken was about 10 weeks old. I am wondering if it would work if I either;

1. Get maybe a couple of chickens that are the same age or even one and put it with her so she can take it, or

2. Get two little ones from the local store and put them under her

So she has babies. I have to say I am so sad.

Thank you I am thinking about everything you have all written. I will see how she is tomorrow. Right now she is sleeping in the coop where her and her baby had slept. If I think she will take some babies I will try. And if she doesn’t take them I will hand raise them.

As for the dog taking her. I think she flew into their yard. We were about to move them all away from the dog area. We do live on the snake river and there are a lot of hawks, eagles, fox and raccoons. So I had set up an area to keep her away from large prey. Unfortunately it was our young dog. 😢
