Baby Chickens Struggling - Not Growing.

Hey guys,

I`ve been breeding chooks for ages and never had this problem before.
I feed the baby chicks, chick starter and give them everything they need.
Yet they seem to grow to a certain size, seem healthy, but then they stop growing. Like their growth is stunted.

On top of this I`m having 1 or 2 babies die every other day. Some of them are making like sneezing/coughing like sounds.. like they're struggling to breathe.

The ones that are doing this, some of them have a clear substance that will run out of their beak if you pick them up.

Obviously it's not too good that this is happening. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what it is and what possibilities there are to perhaps finding a solution.

All my adult birds seem fine.. just the babies.

Cheers.

Sounds like it might be a cold, when my chickens get colds I put some organic apple cider vinegar in there water and it usually clears up quick, colds can kill a chicken especially young ones. there are also many respiratory diseases, a quick google search will give you a list on these with symptoms and how to treat them.

Okay,

some are also loosing their feathers. Does this happen with potential colds?

Birds don't actually catch colds like people..Repiratory disease comes to mind..Your Adult birds could be carriers and not show symptoms..You might be able to manage it with antibiotics for secondary infection but not cure it..Sorry that is happening...

Some of the affected chickens seem to have trouble with their eyes too.. like little sores growing around the eye.. some causing them to not be able to keep their eyes open.

I`ve separated all sick ones from the ones that appear healthy enough.

One thing i`ve suspected but i`m not too sure about is Fowl Pox.
Meant to be quite common here in Australia, especially during hotter seasons from what I`ve read.

we get a lot of mosquitoes and flys here and from what i`ve read they can give it to the birds.

I`ve had little guys with blackish hard lumps on their face as well as the respiratory issues. The ones that are left now don`t have the lumps anymore.

So i dunno, hard to tell. Might even take some of the sick ones in to be seen about to find out exactly what it is so it can be treated if possible.
